Shanghai Disneyland A Massive New Resort Will Open on June 16
The official opening of Disney's new mega theme park in Shanghai is getting closer. It will open officially on June 16, 2016.
The huge Shanghai Disney resort includes two hotels, a shopping district and 6 themed lands (Mickey Avenue, Gardens of Imagination, Fantasyland, Adventure Isle, Treasure Cove and Tomorrowland). It is bigger than the other Disney park in Asia located in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Disney (DIS) has been planning about building a Shanghai theme park since the 2000. The latest version of the project was due to open in late 2015, but construction problems and design changes pushed the date back.
The park features storytelling and design features that Disney hopes will appeal to a Chinese audience. Shanghai's traditional Shikumen-style architecture will be highlighted, as will themes from the Chinese zodiac.
The highly anticipated Chinese park is Disney’s sixth worldwide.
